Morgan County Observatory, 2001-2003

Description
In receipt of a decommissioned Naval telescope, the county board of education selected a site next to a remote elementary school to construct the new observatory. GDA designed the facility to reflect the spirit of those who worked so hard to see this project through to its fruition. Photographs show observatory during on-going construction.

Project Highlights

• Assisted in fund raising and grant writing efforts
  
• Provided early renderings and later, construction documents of the new facility
  Contrast of building materials of the Viewing Room and the Warming Room
• Custom design of interior stairs, lighting, awning, and rain diverter (gargoyle)
  
• Coordination of Cassagrain telescope specifications necessary for the foundation design and motorized dome roof
