The Shenandoah Hotel was financed by local community investors in 1926, who raised $600,000 to build the hotel. The hotel became a cornerstone of Martinsburg’s social scenes, making it a popular destination for tourists and celebrities up until its closure in the 1970s. The upper floors sat vacant for almost 50 years. The hotel was converted to 38 Apartments. Several Micro-units were included totaling no more than 349 square feet yet still providing full kitchens and private bedrooms. The ground floor commercial space was maintained. The original lobby was restored. The Owner’s budget was maintained while hitting the target number of units and selecting long lasting interior finishes. GDA assisted with all phases of State and Federal tax credits yielding more than $3.5 million in tax credits.
