This project included the conversion of a newspaper printing plant into a brewery, kitchen and restaurant. The challenge was to convert the large open space into a taproom without it feeling
vacuous and empty. A variety of dining and drinking areas were created, each with their own personality. Similarly the exterior courtyard was converted into a beer garden with canvas enclosed rooms rated to 100mph and a fire pit. A long poured-in-place cast concrete bar was created with integral dyes so that it is the same color throughout. Large folding doors were added to allow separation between brewery and taproom. LED lighting strips were tucked up and concealed in the double-tee structural roof along with flexible foam sound absorbing insulation pads. A vast colorful mural was incorporated onto a wall overlooking the garden. A custom fold-out stage was designed to allow it to serve as a raised cushioned seating area when not in use as a stage.
